Heat Stroke Treatment At Home /Eliminative Solutions

Table of Contents

The medical definition of heatstroke is a body temperature above 40 degrees, accompanied by complications related to the central nervous system after exposure to high temperatures.

Heatstroke due to insufficient water reaching the body in high heat leads to a malfunction in the body’s temperature control system. Common symptoms of heatstroke include nausea, seizures, confusion, disorientation, and sometimes loss of consciousness or coma.

Heatstroke is the most severe form of heat injury, and although it is considered a mild complication in most cases, failure to treat it can even cause death. Severe heatstroke can cause serious damage to the brain and other internal organs.

This issue mainly affects people over 50 but will not leave young athletes alone in hot seasons and outdoors. Knowing the symptoms of heat stroke and its control methods helps control this complication in the summer.

How is heat stroke diagnosed?

Is it impossible to recognize heat stroke with increased body temperature and exhaustion? Heat can cause various diseases, including rhabdomyolysis (capillary and muscle rupture due to heat and intense physical activity). To diagnose the type and severity of heat damage, doctors write and prescribe some tests, which include:

  1. Rectal temperature measurement to check core body temperature. It is the most accurate method to determine the central body temperature, so it overshadows the accuracy of measuring the temperature of the mouth or forehead.
  2. Muscle function tests. These tests are used to check for severe damage to your muscle tissue (rhabdomyolysis), based on which heatstroke treatment can be started at home.
  3. X-rays and other imaging tests. They are prescribed to check and identify damage to your internal organs.
  4. Urinalysis. Urine color change and the amount of damage done to the kidneys due to heat are determined by urine tests.
  5. Blood test. Examining the amount of sodium, potassium in the blood and the content of gases in it can provide doctors with a complete report of the damage to the central nervous system.

In that regard, reading the article “WBC Count” will be useful.

Which groups are more at risk of heat stroke?

Different groups are at risk of heat stroke, but the most significant risk is for the following groups:

  1. Older adults and children
  2. Patients with heart problems or high blood pressure
  3. People with respiratory and vascular diseases and exhaustion
  4. People with severe skin diseases.
  5. People who engage in vigorous activity, such as athletes and hard workers, are at greater risk.
  6. People who work in a hot environment.
  7. People live in areas with hot and humid weather, especially with no access to air conditioning and other amenities such as air conditioning.

Immediate treatment of heatstroke

Studies have proven that cold water or an ice bath is the most effective way to reduce your core body temperature quickly. Quick actions and first aid after heatstroke at home or on the street include the following:

  1. The first step is to call the emergency.
  2. Try to stay close to the person with heatstroke.
  3. Move the patient to a shaded, cool, or air-conditioned place such as the subway, cinema, or library.
  4. Reduce the number of his clothes (socks, shoes, etc.) or open the buttons.
  5. Moisten the skin (mainly in the neck, armpit, and groin) and head of the patient with wet cloths or blankets.
  6. If you are at home, cold baths or ice immersion are recommended for quick treatment of heatstroke at home.
  7. Blow the patient with air or wet tissue.
  8. You may need medications to stop muscle tremors after treating heatstroke. In this case, the doctor will give you a muscle relaxant such as a benzodiazepine.
  9. To quickly treat heatstroke at home, give the patient sips of cool liquids.
  10. Serum injection, or serum therapy, helps to reduce body temperature and return lost water quickly.

Critical points in home remedies for heatstroke

Note that home remedies for heatstroke alone are not enough. If you have signs and symptoms of heatstroke, seek immediate medical help. Others should also perform first aid to cool you down while you wait for emergency help to arrive.

  • For immediate treatment of heatstroke, turn on the air conditioner or fan.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Your body’s salt has been lost due to sweating. To compensate, you can try drinks containing salt.
  • Do not use sugary or alcoholic drinks to hydrate because they reduce the body’s ability to lower the temperature.
  • Do not use icy drinks because it causes stomach cramps.

Conclusion

When exposed to too much heat in hot weather, the body’s temperature regulation system is disturbed; in this case, the body cannot expel the excess heat.

As a result, the body overheats, and various organs are damaged. In the meantime, the events that can be predicted are heat exhaustion, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

Among the symptoms of heatstroke in children and adults in the summer season are dry and hot skin, no sweating, reddening of the skin and then its gradual paleness or bruising, short and fast breathing, fast and weak pulse, increase in body temperature to More than 40 degrees, headache, muscle cramps (this type of cramps cannot be relieved by massage and you should give some water and salt to the heat stroke person), dilated pupils, confusion, leg muscle cramps, aggression, hallucinations, lethargy, and convulsions.

The last stage of heat stroke is heat stroke.
