What is the cause of the decay of fully developed wisdom teeth?

You should know that wisdom teeth are not necessarily weaker than normal teeth, but they are more susceptible to decay because of their location in the mouth.

Adults have 32 teeth. “Wisdom tooth” or “third molar” is one of the last teeth and erupts at the back of the mouth. This tooth usually appears between the ages of 17 and 25, although in some cases, it has been seen at older ages.

Today, most people have jaws that do not have room for 32 teeth, and the jaw can finally accommodate 28 teeth.

Therefore, if all the teeth have erupted and are healthy, there will not be enough space for the proper growth of wisdom teeth.

Golden tips for care after extracting a decayed, fully developed wisdom tooth

It is necessary to take the necessary precautions after tooth extraction to go through the treatment period:

Put a sterile gauze on the wound and gently bite it.

If you are still bleeding after 24 hours, call your doctor.

Do not eat anything while your mouth is numb, as you may injure your lips, tongue, or cheek.

Keep your head higher than your body when lying down.

You can put an ice pack on your cheek to reduce swelling and pain. In the first twenty-four hours after tooth extraction, use a cold compress several times and leave it for 15-20 minutes each time. After a day, you can use a warm compress.

Avoid physical activity after surgery because it increases bleeding.

Eat soft foods such as jelly, thin soup, yogurt, and similar foods for up to 24 hours. As you gradually get better, you can eat solid foods.

Do not use a straw because it may dislodge the blood clot and delay wound healing.

After 24 hours, rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times daily to reduce swelling and pain. Be careful to wash your mouth gently.

Do not smoke for at least 24 hours after surgery. The sucking motion loosens the blood clot and delays recovery. Also, smoking weakens the blood supply and introduces microbes into the body that can infect the wound site.

Avoid rubbing the tooth extraction site with your tongue or fingers.

Brush your teeth and tongue carefully.

If necessary, the dentist will ask you to return a few days later to remove the stitches.
